On 14 June, a closed-door meeting took place at CHCA’s Livelihood Development Center (LDC) in Zugdidi. The meeting was attended by Mr Andrew Schofer, US State Department Chief Adviser on the Caucasus, the US Deputy Chief, the Heads of Political, Economic and Cultural Sections of the US Embassy and the representatives of the Georgian NGOs.
Mr Andrew Schofer touched upon the format and importance of the Geneva International Discussions, and the issues discussed in this format, as well as the problems and prospects of Georgia. In addition, on his initiative, the participants discussed the humanitarian and economic situation of the conflict-affected people.
Mr Nukri Milorava, Executive Director of CHCA, expressed his gratitude to the initiators of the meeting and proposed to convene similar meetings and information exchange regularly. He addressed various issues such as - the importance of the implementation of the IDP Integration Strategy, the challenges faced by IDPs, the results of research conducted in IDP collective centers, recommendations submitted to the Government by organizations working on IDP issues and the progress of confidence-building initiatives.
The representatives of NGOs focused on the situation in Gali, Abkhazia. The particular emphasis was made on human rights issues, safe movement and youth education problems.
