International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

November 25th is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

It is important for every woman to know about her rights.

In this direction, CHCA conducted the research "Gender equality in Abkhazia and Samegrelo", one of the goals of which was to study the general perceptions, attitudes and knowledge of gender equality in Abkhazia and Samegrelo.

In the study, as a result of face-to-face interviews, the data of 100 interviewed respondents in Abkhazia and Samegrelo are given.
  • According to 84% of the people living in the village, violence by a man is always instigated by a woman;
  • Seven out of ten respondents have a more or less negative assessment of women who publicly declare violence;
  • A third of the respondents believe that a man who is not strict enough does not deserve respect;
  • Patience is acceptable for 62% of respondents in order to maintain a family;
  • 64% of respondents believe that wives should get permission from their husbands to leave the house;
  • According to 79%, men are better political leaders than women;
  • 73% of the surveyed men consider cooking, ironing and cleaning to be a woman's natural duty.
