The right to movement for all – inclusive transport in Khoni

In 2023-2025, with the support of the European Union, the project “Integrated Territorial Development of the Khoni Municipality of the Imereti Region” was implemented in Khoni, within the framework of which the Khoni IDP Initiative Group received a grant, which made it possible to purchase and use specialized, adapted transport to serve people with limited mobility, IDPs and other vulnerable groups.

The project serves to increase accessibility to mobility and create an inclusive environment. The new adapted route with an electric lift device ensures safe and dignified movement of people using wheelchairs. The service is free of charge for people with disabilities according to a pre-agreed schedule.

The project is a service-based model: users can book transport in advance by phone or through digital channels. The service works on the principle of both planned movement and individual demand. The income from private orders is transferred to the account of the Khoni IDP Initiative Group and is directed to social needs, such as education, medical support and social initiatives.

The target groups are persons with disabilities, IDPs, the elderly, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations. Geographically, the initiative covers the administrative borders of Khoni Municipality, and if necessary, it can be expanded to nearby villages where the problem of mobility is particularly acute.

The project promotes the social integration of marginalized groups, ensures active involvement in education and public life and is a successful example of cooperation between civil society organizations, local authorities and the private sector. The provision of inclusive transport strengthens equality, solidarity and an inclusive vision of regional development in Khoni.
