Rain garden construction work has begun in Poti

In Poti, in the settlement of IDPs from Abkhazia (Abkhazia and Gagra streets), the drainage and sewage systems of residential buildings have been in critical condition for years, which leads to constant water stagnation in the basements, the spread of dampness and mold, a decrease in the structural stability of buildings, and an increase in health risks.

To solve this problem, the following was done in 3 residential buildings:
  • Repair of the damaged water supply and sewage;
  • Detailed study of pipes;
  • Replacement/repair of faulty pipes;
  • Portable pumps were installed.

As a result, in the near future the population will receive dry and stable basements, a healthier, safer and climate-resistant living environment.

In addition, work is also underway on the external perimeter, where we are starting to arrange rain gardens. This nature-based solution will capture rainwater in the ground and channel it into the soil, reducing the load on yards and drainage systems and minimizing the risk of water accumulation in basements.

And yet, what is a rain garden?

We will get back to you with this soon!

The project "Sustainable Basements for a Green Society - Climate Adaptation in Poti IDP Settlements" is implemented by CHCA with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of Denmark within the framework of the project "Greening the Future: Rights and Strengthening Stability".
