Information campaign to promote "rain gardens"

For years, the Poti IDP settlement has been facing infrastructural challenges, including flooding of basements of residential buildings, damaged drainage infrastructure and accumulation of surface water, which poses a threat to both the structure of buildings and the living conditions of the population.

CHCA is actively conducting an information campaign aimed at promoting modern, nature-based solutions for stormwater management, including the "rain gardens".

A rain garden is a specially designed green space that:
  • retains stormwater,
  • improves water infiltration into the soil,
  • reduces the risk of flooding.

The local population was provided with information on the maintenance of the drainage system and the function of the garden.

The implementation of the project contributes to improving the environment, increasing the safety of residential areas, reducing flooding incidents and creating an ecological green zone.

The inclusion of the local population is especially valuable - the support, donations and willingness of residents to participate in the cultivation and subsequent maintenance of the "rain gardens" ensure the sustainability of this initiative.

The project is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Georgia) and the Government of Denmark, under the project "Greening the Future: Strengthening Rights and Stability".
