IDP communities receive training on tenants' and homeowners' associations

Welcome to Charity Humanitarian Centre ABKHAZETI
Charity Humanitarian Centre "Abkhazeti" (CHCA) is the premiere Georgian Non-Governmental Organization focused on empowering Georgia's internally displaced and other vulnerable populations. Established in 1995, in response to the thousands of Georgian IDPs ("internally displaced persons") created by violent conflict with the region of Abkhazia, CHCA has since implemented a wide range of programming from education and micro-finance to emergency relief and housing assistance. Along with its founders, the vast majority of the organization's employees are themselves IDPs.
An apolitical organization, CHCA's general goals are: to increase the role of individuals and communities in building civil society and strengthening democracy and to improve the social and economic conditions of IDPs and other vulnerable populations through capacity-building and increasing self-reliance. The activities of the organization are carried out transparently, based on the principles of: professionalism, equality, long-term partnership, and sustainable development... more
Ongoing Programs
Income Generation and Livelihoods
The main goal of the Income Generation & Livelihoods Program is to increase participatory development opportunities for displaced persons and to assist the community in reaching the self-reliance. Income Generation Program is a great chance for most vulnerable representatives of IDP communities to improve their socio-ecumenical condition for better lives in the future.

Children & Youth Protection and Development
The Children & Youth Protection and Development programme aims to support internally-displaced and local vulnerable young people to develop their leadership potential and their personal and professional skills in order to become socially active, self-reliant citizens. The programme serves to strengthen the social security net through the empowerment of youth; develop a vibrant civil society; and accumulate social capital in the community.

Advocacy and Protection of Internally Displaced Communities
This program is related to protection of both "new" and "old" IDPs accommodated in the private sector in villages in the Gori and Kareli regions. CHCA observes general situation and carries out needs assessment of IDPs in private accommodation.

Community Development
Community Development Program focuses on the regions of Kvemo Kartli (Gardabani) and Imereti (Tskaltubo). The project aims to encourage integration among IDPs and local populations, promote socio-economic development and public dialogue, and finally to contribute to the development of local governmental and community capacities.
